Local birdwatchers have spotted Black-Capped Vireos, Painted Buntings and Kingfishers. The Wildlife Refuge has a variety of hiking trails from easy to rigorous. The Wichita Mountains' cliffs and peaks are available for the rock climbing enthusiast.
